Just to be clear, I don't consider anything "official" until it comes directly from a team, but I do trust journalists and John Vogl of The Buffalo News wrote in his blog Sabres Edge that it has been confirmed — I'm assuming he means by the team. He also had a couple more tidbits we didn't previously know about.
This jersey photo that has been leaked is, in fact, the actual third jersey, The News has learned. Two other things have been cleared up:
1) The logo is the same color as the jersey, the darker blue. It only looks different because the different fabrics aren't reflecting the same.
2) It will have numbers on the front shoulder.
In case you forgot what it looks like, here's the jersey we're talking about.
The Sabres are scheduled to officially unveil their new third jersey next Saturday, September 20 at Puck Drop 2008. I'll have complete coverage at that point right here on Icethetics.
Thanks to Mike for the heads-up on this!

for those scoring at home, it should be the front shoulders on the left side just like the same templates they have now.
Assuming you are talking about the number, it goes on the left side of the pic, but that's the right shoulder.
That's really too bad. I'm not opposed to updating the old jersey, but I think this is a lousy update. There's no need for the white stripes, and particularly the piping. Maybe it looks better on the ice, but for now I'd say they blew it. Again.
I think the silver stripes are great (and white would have been fine too). The original jersey that this is modeled on looked a little too stark with just blue and yellow and no white.
So far, I'm impressed with all three new thirds that have come out.
Hesitant at first. But i've analyzed the jersey very carefully and i really like it. It's not the slug. thats all that matters.
carpandean, it was a loose elaboration and continuation of #2 in the text box. so yes, i was referring to the numbers.
I can't believe the white piping and the white outlines. Stupid as hell.
wade - they're silver, not white. The silver stripes aren't bad, nor are the silver outlines on the logo. The silver piping looks silly in this pic but may not be too bad in person; have to wait and see.
Now hopefully the pants and socks jive with it. I'm excited, this jersey is worthy, even with the piping.
If that is indeed the Sabres third sweater, I absolutely love it. Like 99.9% of hockey fans on this blog, I have no time nor place for the vertical piping. However, the rest of the sweater looks great. I still prefer the original royal blue and gold without the silver, but the Sabres should have gone to this look in '96-'97 instead of the black, silver, and red goathead. Let's hope that the Sabres come out with a white version in a year or two and rid themselves and their fans of the slug once and for all.
Piping might be to match the pants... Still ugly.
And numbers on the front? Shouldn't the alt be a chance for fans to buy a jersey without that disgrace?
If I was a Sabres fan any jersey I bought would have a seam ripper taken to that front number...
It is however, still an upgrade from the slug. In that aspect it'll be a success.
I WANT EVERYONE TO LOOK AT THIS PIC...

GO THERE, ITS A PIC OF THE JERSEY MADE ON THE COMP. IT MAKES IT LOOK 1000 TIMES BETTER.
Enough with the numbers on the front...UGLY!
GoSabres21....You're right, the jersey looks WAY better.
Note: the pic that GoSabres21 posted was created by DRutka.
Right on carpandean...I think DRutka has done a great job delivering his concepts of the new third jersey.
yes it was. i forgot the name tho, otherwise i would have said that is was DRutka. DRutka does amazing work. i think that will change some peoples opinion about the jersey. i think DRutka's rendition of it makes me like it more.
also, DRutka's rendition makes the piping not look too bad
original with silver piping > slug > original logo. But then again I was never good at math so I'm the only one that probably thinks this.
yeah, the piping's a little much.
but.
a huge upgrade over the cashew style slug.
