Pretty In Pink

I know it's for a good cause, but this amuses me. A handful of hockey teams are donning special pink jerseys in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month — which is October.

The AHL's Portland Pirates will wear this uniforms tonight when the face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

You can even get one of your own. Detail on their web site.

The QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads wore these last night as they got blasted 7-1.

Like I said, it's a good cause but it just looks so funny.

If you guys know of any other teams that have worn pink jerseys this month or have plans to, send me pictures and I'll add them to this post.

You know, they do this stuff all the time in the minors; I remember going to an ECHL game several years back between the Long Beach Ice Dogs and the San Diego Gulls, who wore pink jerseys that night.

But they never do something like this in the pros, in any sport. Baseball is the only sport that comes close, with the pink bats and pink armbands, for Mother's Day.

By the way, that Portland Pirates jersey actually looks pretty good.

Yeah they use pink sticks hockey.
And that Mooseheads jersey is really really ugly. But the Pirates jersey is actually pretty cool.

HMMMM? halifax lost 7-1 while wering pink. Why dosen't that suprise me. Anyways it's for good cause (good excuse to wear it) but they should olny have a pink strap or something instead of making the jersey pink. Also jyst try to imagine a pink jersey like that in the NHL!

Ksy, the NHL did something like it a little while back too- Every player was required to use a pink stick, either in practice or in a game, and they signed them and auctioned them off through various sites, including e-bay and the NHL auction site. I think it was a mother's day thing too.

But I don't think a pro team has ever done the pink jersey thing.

Well it couldn't have been a mother's day thing because they don't play during May, except for the playoffs. But yeah, I seem to remember the NHL do something with pink sticks sometime ago, when I think about it.

Being a Mooseheads fan, I'm a bit biased.

I thought the pink jerseys looked as nice as could be expected. The Breast cancer loop covered the whole jersey and the main logo was colorless so it didn't stand out more than the cause.

Also, the Mooseheads website was tranformed pink for the week leading up to the game.

After the game, these sweaters were auctioned off to lucky fans. It was the first time the Mooseheads have ever worn pink and I'll bet they do it again next year as the game drew their highest attendance of the season.

As for losing 7-1, they're rebuilding this year with a lot of inexperienced players so it wasn't that surprising.

The Manitoba Moose wore their regular jersey with a pink ribbon where the 'C' or 'A' would normally be and auctioned off a pink stick. Not really a new jersey but they also sold those game-worn ribbon jerseys the next day.

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League are wearing pink jerseys as well this month and auctioning off the jerseys afterward...they did this last year, as well

i like how they used part of the "B" with the sword through it that the sabres have...

i would much rather see that jersey in red as a third then the one they are gunna use...

In the swiss NLA, Geneva Servette actually played in a pink jersey and socks and every player had pink sticks for the night. On top of that the even removed the eagle, which is the symbol of Geneva Servette and replaced it with a pink bow behind the normal puck logo of GS.

This year they are doing the same, but will also use pink short covers!

here is a photo from last season:

The Columbia Inferno had "Pink in the Rink" during each of the past two seasons. They wore the pink jerseys in back-to-back games each year. Funny as it sounds, I think the Inferno were 4-0 in the pink jerseys.

The Inferno booster club website has some pretty good pictures from the 2008 Pink in the Rink:

Last season the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL painted the ice pink and i made the whole arena glow in a pink shade, and they lost all of the games they played on that ice
