AHL Third Jersey Update, Part 4

Part 1 · Part 2 · Part 3

More AHL third jersey news to share tonight, beginning with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. They've apparently got new white third jerseys with the orange tiger on the front.

And I have a picture.

For reference, Bridgeport's regular home jersey is orange while their road sweater is blue.

The other team I'm reporting on is the Chicago Wolves. But they're kind of an enigma. From the photos I found, it looks like they've been using this white third jersey since last season.

If any Wolves fans are reading, maybe you can fill us in. Were the Wolves actually the first to sport a third jersey in the Rbk EDGE era?

And what's all this with white third jerseys? The regular white jersey for Chicago has the primary logo on the front instead of the text.

As always, if you've got a tip on AHL third jerseys, email me and I'll be happy to post it.

I'm guessing they have white thirds due to their home jerseys being white, as opposed to the dark homes for the NHL.

i like that wolves wordmark across the chest. i rarely like wordmarks (ex: i HATE the ducks front)

actually chris, Bridgeport doesn't have a regular white RBK EDGE jersey, their home jersey is orange and on the road they wear their navy blues.

the white jersey you're looking at is one from '06/'07 i believe.

link is to their online store where you can see their jerseys

I agree with QCFlamesIceman on the white jersey thing. The shot of the goalie is old as they changed the colour of the tiger a couple of years ago.

That being said, Bridgeport's new third jersey looks VERY similar to that of the Oilers' white silks. The difference being that the stipes on their arms are solid, they have a tie-up collar, they have a stripe on the bottom, and they have secondary logos on their shoulders.

That Bridgeport jersey with the logo is an old third jersey that they now wear only during the preseason(most AHL teams don't wear their regular uniforms in the preseason).

Also, AHL teams could have thirds last year, but the couldn't be edge jerseys. So, Chicago has had that jersey for a few years and just carried it into last season. Based a picture on their website it looks like the adapted it to an edge jersey template for this year.

chris,

lots of people know nothing about the AHL. only reason i know about it is there used to be an AHL franchise where i live. they've since moved to the Quad Citys, but i still follow them close. too bad more people don't know the talent that comes through the AHL on the road to the NHL, i think they'd be surprised.

Im a season Ticket Holder for the Toronto Marlies. there are good Games and lots of nice logos in the Leauge. QC is right about those 2 Jerseys though. I first seen them iun those blue ones but after i started to watch the Marlies i wanted to get one i thought the blue Tiger was awesom. But it was changed to the Orange one now. for at least 3 seasons as far as i know.

ACTUALLY....

The white jerseys the Sound tigers are wearing will be their new home jerseys.

The orange jerseys that they wore last year will now be used as third jerseys.

They will continue to wear the blues on the road.

Chris, to clear a few things up (since I tipped you off on these teams anyway).

1. Chicago has been wearing that third for a number of years, but only this year has it been in the Rbk Edge cut. So it's only sorta new, like the Blackhawks and Leafs.

2. There's so many white third jerseys because in the AHL home teams wear white, and, unlike the NHL pre-2003, teams are not allowed to wear dark thirds at home and have the visitors in white. AHL teams are only allowed to wear dark jerseys at home 2-3 times a year, so in order for the home fans to get to see the alternate, most teams go with a white or other light-colored design.

Nice Oilers half-stripes there, Tigers. I'll never understand how anyone could think that they look good.

Actually, the white jerseys for Bridgeport are new. The white ones they used in the past used to be their home jerseys. It was a white version of the orange Islander third jersey. I just checked the Soundtiger website and those white jerseys are different. They have blue white and orange stripes on the bottom like the traditional Islanders jerseys. They have an orange line on the sleeves. I think they look very good. I think the Islanders should go back to that as well.

Thank god there is more people here that follow the AHL. I a Hartford Wolf Pack season ticket holder, and I'm glad there are more people follow AHL hockey. Also, I have seen the Pack's third jersey, and I will try to get a picture of it this weekend.

Monarchs are also sporting a new third jersey. They wore it in their home opener against Springfield.
