Regarding NHL 09

I've been receiving a lot of emails regarding the release of EA Sports' NHL 09 video game. The questions are about whether the game, which was released yesterday in North America, features the new third jerseys.

Last year, when the new Rbk EDGE jerseys were released, NHL 08 featured a special code to unlock the jerseys since the game was going to be out before all the teams had unveiled them. That didn't work out so well since the code was "accidentally" leaked before it was supposed be.

Regarding NHL 09: It is my understanding this game also features an area where a code is to be entered to unlock 19 "alternate jerseys" for 18 teams. It actually features two for the Sabres. My guess is that one is the third jersey, which is blue, and the other is possibly the Winter Classic sweater, which was white.

I do not own a copy of the game so I'm only going on what I've been told by others.

Now for the important part. No, I do not have the code. No, I do not know when it will be released. I'm sure that if it does leak, someone will send in screenshots of the jerseys included in the game — just like last year — and I will post them.

That is the extent to which I'm going to talk about the game on Icethetics since that is the extent to which the game is relevant to hockey jerseys or logos.

I hope that clears up some things. This is all I know so any more emails on the subject will be disregarded.

im sure there will be a code to release the new 3rd alternate jerseys.

this game looks very promising.

personally, I like the create a player feature with the old vintage style fiberglass goalie masks.

I seen a youtube post where you can put Custome music in the gaem for every team. I.E. Goal Music, Entrance music and stuff like that. i thought that was the best feature.

yes you can do all that. and yes the one jersey for the sabres is the winter classic one. look at the people in the crowd. they are wearing them. this game is insane. pretty much the best ever.

yeah, the 2nd alt jersey for the sabres is the winter classic white tie up jersey... which i have also noticed people in the crowd wearing... even though they have yet to sell the RBK edge white sabres vintage tie up to the public... bastards, i want one.

is the game expected to have vintage jerseys? i've yet to see any game better than ESPN NHL 2K5 in that regard, if they can match that effort, i'll get it

living in europe i got my hands on the game a couple of days ago, and it's absolutely great. about the whole 3rd jersey/code stuff: there is a code to be entered and from what i found out checking the web it will be revealed once every team has unveiled their respective third jersey (and yes, there are two uniforms for the sabres that are currently locked)

i wish they would have sold the tie version of the winter classic jersey. i wanted one but i didnt think it was as cool w/o the ties lol. and yes, nhl 09 has vintage jerseys. some really sweet ones, for example, with vancouvers black and yellow vintage, the goalie pads and helmets and equip, all change to the matching color. its a great great game. got it thanks to my g/f.

LOL I get to wait for the Crappy PC version.

don't you think that the canadiens will be the team with 2 alternate sweaters?

just got the game, 3rds are locked to confirm what chris said.

on another relevant point tho, there is a centennial canadiens team you can use, and they all have vintage equipment, many no helmets. anyway, the relevant part is they are wearing the pre-rbk sweaters. i would not have been happy to see howie morenz in an edge jersey

I'm with you Mike. I'm waiting for the PC version. However, at least we get Be-A-Pro. And do you remember how many vintage jerseys NHL 08 for the PC had? I think nearly every one . . .

I just bought nhl 09 and they do have a decent amount of vintage jerseys, which is a nice change of pace. Im looking forward to seeing the alternate jerseys on the game.

Hey, just picked up my copy of NHL 09 for PS3 today. 9/12/08. yes, when go into play now mode, there is the alternate for most teams. If you try to select it, the games tells you to enter a code at easports.com/nhl09/ Haven't found anything yet either. But I can confirm that there is a place like last years version to enter the code when leaked, i mean released.

Also a big plus to NHL 09 for including color changeable NHL team logos in the create a team mode!!

P.S.:

Just scanned the teams. The follow teams have a brand new alternate coming soon in NHL 09.

Thrashers, Bruins, Hurricanes, Blackhawks, Stars, Oilers, Kings, Islanders, Senators, Flyers, Coyotes, Penguins, Blues, Sharks, Lightning, Maple Leafs and Canucks.

While that all the game has, some teams already have third jereys from past years and or will be going retro with new jerseys. For instance, I hear Calgary will have a third Jersey but may have a retro logo and style.

yeah, the sabres. In the game I didn't see any indication, however I know from the team site, this and other sources they will have a 3rd jersey.

Man - do yourself a favor and get it regardless. I've been playing since the Genesis days and wouldn't touch any other year/franchise after 2K5 until NHL 08 came out... trust it - NHL 09 is the best ever.

Xander... your code does work, but does anybody know why it doesn't save? Everytime I start up NHL 09 I have to put the code in again.
