i voted for option 3. I like the way it incorporates the D and L

#2 is mine. Awesome!

#1... Why are you guys voting for something that you can't even see? Seriously, I know what it is, but I can't make out any detail and that makes me think it's "too detailed"

#3 I'm not sure I like the way the Logo incorporates the D and L, but I voted for it since I don't vote for my own.

Plus #1 is too much, and has nothing to do with the Legions of Detroit. (Yes, there actually is a group of them here in MI. They were a part of the Revolutionary War and on.)

I really like #1 but its too much IMO for a hockey brand. and the other 2 kind lack a little. but i would vote for 2. if i could vote which i have not been able to for this pas week and a half that would be my pick.

#1 is too much for a good logo, in any sport, but I went with it because it's the only one that I'm able to see some definite form in. It's the only one that I'm actually able to see something in.

FWIW, I do see the D and L in #3, but for me I can't vote for a logo that really only has letters.

For me, one thing I look for is definition. I didn't know what a "legion" exactly is, and #1 is the only one that really helps me understand what it is.

For you guys who are having trouble with what a "legion" is, I recommend searching Wikipedia and picking one of the topics that come up.

I had to do the same thing. When I looked, the coolest one seemed to be the Revolutionary War version. I searched for a version in the state of Michigan, and low and behold they existed and still do. I went with the style for my logo. The star is a medal that is awarded to legion members for service. The hat in the middle is a revolutionary war general's cap. (Think George Washington.)

Before any one says anything, I'm just explaining what mine is about. Just in case they didn't understand what it was.

Ksy, do you feel the same about the Habs logo? I think it's possible to have a good logo with just letters, but in this contest where I think the logo should really evoke the team brand, you make a good point.

To defend #3 a little, there is a helmet, although it just makes me think 300. Not sure if that's very "Detroit Legion-y" either though.

I think #1 looks like the Ottawa Senator put on medieval knight armor on. Too detailed to go on as a crest for a hockey jersey imo so I didn't vote for it.

#3 looks like a dude with a big head and small body. Weird. I like #2, clean, simple, and would look way better on a jersey than #1. That would look better with a cirlce around it, maybe the name too like the Wild.

Being the artist behind number two, what exactly is the thing in then center... the I like the rest of the design a lot, but I can't make out what the center is. Maybe I'm just missing something.

On another note, I have to agree with most of the people on here or who have at least said something. Number one is a great overall design, but there is just so much detail to it that in the real world it probably wouldn't work for a crest. I wonder if its possible to keep the essence of it in a simplified version because if its possible it would be one of the best in the league.

And number three I didn't get at first till I read some comments, I don't particularly like it as a whole but I didn't send one in for this batch so I guess I can't complain too much. Its doing better then mine have done so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

#2 all the way, especially since it incorporates the idea of a legion in the Michigan area and would look good on a jersey

A legion isn't a knight or anything like that. It's a grouping of soldiers (kinda like a brigade... or a regiment... or a division). If people don't know what something is, how can they vote on an image to represent it? It's called an "encyclopedia" people, or, even wikipedia...

#1, while a nice image, is clearly the worst representation for a team named "Legions".

#2 is great; civil war and local significance.

#3 works because of the Roman Legion.

Here you go. The man in the front's hat is what I based it off of. I didn't like the way the legions hat looked so I went with him since he's the leader.

Thanks, makes sense now, and with that information its probably the best overall logo, that involves sound design, and correct definition of the term.

I wish more people put deep thought into their logos, like cultural significance. An example being the Canucks (my home team). To many people who live outside of BC, or Canada think that its logo doesn't represent its city or province. When in fact its one of the most reflective logos I know of. The colour scheme, represents the forest and ocean which BC is know for. The artist orca links to the native american arts and the orca itself is the most prominent animal on our coast line. I think what makes a great logo isn't just a pretty design its all the little thing that make it so amazing.

I thought the Canucks' logo was an orca because of the company that owned the team, Orca Bay.. unless the company was named after the Native American arts.

The Habs' logo I've always thought looked.. well, unique, but in a good sense. For a team named "Canadiens", it's hard to do a logo that represents the entire nation, although the Maple Leafs did a good job (I do wonder why they didn't use red, however). I was born in 1990, so the logo had already been around for 80+ years. Knowing something like that, I could feel the sense of history and tradition in the logo if it lasted that long.

That said, if a team were to come into the league tomorrow and have a logo that was primarily composed of letters, I wouldn't be a fan of it.
