AHL Jersey News

I've got a few pieces of AHL jersey-related news. To start, I need to dispel a weird rumor. EA released a bunch more screenshots of NHL 09 and you wouldn't believe the number of emails I got from folks who thought this was the San Jose Sharks' new third jersey.

Without question it's the AHL's Worcester Sharks.

Some other screenshots of the game showed the backs of the Iowa Chops' new uniforms.

Basically they'll be wearing a red (instead of orange) version of the Anaheim Ducks' sweaters.

And finally, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins evidently have a third jersey design out there that I hadn't seen before...

...I'll leave my words out of it, availing myself of the adage: "If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all." However if you'd like to comment, please do so.

WBS Pens is AWESOME. It's so frigging ugly I can't help but love it. That logo looks like something right out of the film SlapShot..

The Pens jersey was a throwback honoring the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets of 1915-25

How much you want to bet the NHL pens go with the powder blue version on that Scranton jesery.

Isn't that WB PEns logo a little close to the Pensacola Ice Pilots logo...?

Also... Iowa Chops? Are you ****ing kidding me? That's actually the name of a hockey team?

Love the Penguins jersey, classic - looks like a College jersey.

Not a huge fan of AHL affiliate teams having the same jerseys (more or less) as their parent NHL teams, but they do it in baseball, so I guess there's precedent...

lol my ass off about the possible SJ Sharks 3rd. How the heck would you explain the GIANT W CREST on the front?

i agree with adam on the parent jersey thing, but i do think the red works better than the ducks orange. as for the chops logo itself...

Ugliest plainest penguins jersey ever.

Just a Thought here, maybe the sharks organization used a black jersey in Worcester last season to gauge the response of the fans, and if it was positive feedback, they would unveil something similar as the San Jose alternate this season?

As far as the WBS Pens jersey, I think it is awesome, at least someone has the balls to use some colour :)

I hate playing the Baby Sharks when they wear those damn jerseys. The name plate is in a small font.

Who knew EA chief John Riccitiello was a goalie?

I also wonder if that "Ekberg" was supposed to be GameSpot's Brian Ekberg or someone else at EA.

If I were to hazard a guess, the Sharks will probably do something similar to their last third. All black, primary crest, and stripes on the arms in the team colors.

The Baby Pens third jersey isn't new. They wore it last season.

I love that WBS Penguins jersey. Better looking than anything the Phantoms ever wore.

that pens jersey is awesome... as someone said it's a throwback to the hornets...

a flyers fan shouldn't be able to comment on the aesthetic pleasantness of other teams' jerseys. And the Phantoms might have the worst jerseys of the Rbk Edge era.

The best alternates are always tributes to former clubs or jerseys. I think this is a classy move by the WBS Pens.

Gee, Chris, I wonder what you'd say about Marc-André Fleury's love for the yellow jersey... *grin*
